Genus: Nabalus — rattlesnake-root
You will need to use flowers and fruits for identification, as well as the shape of the lower leaf blades. Do not confuse broken-off pappus bristles for involucral hairs. The pappus bristles have tiny barbs, while the involucral bract hairs are smooth. Species in this genus have formerly been treated in Prenanthes. Reference: Bogler (2006).
