Native Plant Trust: Go Botany Discover thousands of New England plants

Sighting: Hottonia inflata at 42.234631, -71.192962

by Steph Radner on June 20 2015

Location notes: Dedham Town Forest, Dedham MA. The only access is from Washington Street, Dedham (Route 1A). Don't attempt to access from I-95.

Comments: I found two decent sized populations (close to each other). They are growing within about 200' of I-95 in water that loaded with highway runoff salt, so I assumed they were some invasive weed. I was pleasantly surprised to find they are an uncommon rare plant. I took photos of the smaller population in an area that is more dried up. The other population is larger and in standing water. Today's rainfall should help.
