Facts
A widespread sedge with a circumboreal distribution, brown bog sedge occurs in wet, often calcareous sites. This plant gets its specific epithet (buxbaumii) from Johann Christian Buxbaum (1693-1730), a german botanist who collected in Greece, the Middle East, and Russia.

Fens (calcium-rich wetlands), floodplain (river or stream floodplains), meadows and fields, shores of rivers or lakes, swamps
