Facts

Professor-weed is native to Europe and western Asia and invasive in scattered regions of North America. It has a number of traditional medicinal uses in Europe. It was formerly used in the treatment of plague and to stimulate lactation. It was introduced in North America in the nineteenth century as a potential forage plant, but its secondary compounds proved toxic to livestock. It subsequently became invasive and is now considered a noxious weed in many states.
