Facts
Sporadic, scattered introductions of niger-seed in North America are probably rarely if ever persistent. They may originate from birdseed wastes (the seeds are commonly used in foods for caged birds). Niger-seed is sometimes grown as an oilseed crop and the seeds are pressed with honery to make cakes in Ethiopia.
