Native Plant Trust: Go Botany Discover thousands of New England plants

Genus: Ligustrum — privet

Species of Ligustrum are commonly planted for hedges in New England. Some of our introduced taxa are native to Asia and are subdivided into varieties there. However, no detailed systematic work has been done to determine which varieties have been planted in New England. Therefore, the keys separate privets only to the rank of species. Reference: Nesom (2009).
