Facts
Common eyebright is a hemiparasite on the roots of grasses. This means that it is partially parasitic, using specialized roots to penetrate the roots of its host and steal some nutrients, obtaining the rest through conventional photosynthesis. Common eyebright has been used in herbal medicine to treat repiratory conditions, allergies, and as the name implies, as an eyewash to treat a number of eye ailments.

common eyebright. Euphrasia americana Wettst.; E. canadensis, sensu Fernald; E. officinalis L. var. nemorosa Pers. • MA, ME, NH, VT; also reported from CT by Dowhan (1979), but specimens are unknown. Fields, roadsides, clearings, coastal headlands and open areas.
